Tuesday 23rd October 2018 saw the East Riding School Cross Country Championships return to Cottingham High school for the 2nd time after last year’s success. First up, the Secondary Schools descended on site on a fresh, crisp, autumnal day to tackle the 6000m course. With over 450 students competing throughout the morning it was a sight to behold as the 6 separate age groups completed each course with tenacity in blustery conditions. There were some outstanding performances and the top teams and top 25 athletes are now invited to the Humber round. Later that same day, it was the turn of the Primary Schools, approximately 250 pupils registered to compete across 4 categories. The youngsters all showed fine athletic ability to complete the course with both individual determination and fine team spirit on display throughout. Once all the athletes, parents and staff had left it was time to reflect on a wonderful day of athletics at Cottingham High School. A huge amount of effort goes into organising events like these but once you see the athletes arriving, PE staff engaging with colleagues and the wide range of performances that mean so much to each individual it is a reminder of how important it is to keep these traditional dates in the calendar and strive to maintain and improve these standards each and every year. Huge thanks should be given to all the staff involved along with an extra acknowledgement to Cottingham High School for allowing the East Riding School Sport Partnerships to host the event on site during the school day.  See everyone the same time next year then….
