On 27 January over 60 students from Special Schools across the area attended Ennerdale Leisure Centre for the Young Leaders Day. The East Riding School Sport Partnership (West) was proud to play a part in the organisation of the event, working alongside Mark Arridge from St Mary's College, Hull and Andy Watts, Sports Coordinator from Kings Mills School.

Ross Atkinson and James Martin, Community Cricket Officers from the Yorkshire Cricket Board, attended the event along with a representative from Boccia England to deliver the Cricket and Boccia sessions.  A group of Year 12 BTEC First in Sport Students from St Mary's College supported the students in the activities.

It was the first time an event such as this had been attempted and the feedback received has been very positive.  All of the students who took part had a fabulous day and it is hoped that further sessions and activities will be delivered to participating schools in the future.

Andy Watts, Sports Coordinator from Kings Mill School, whose students attended the day thanked everyone involved for a fantastic day. "I never tire of seeing a large group of our young people participating in a sporting event and socialising with each other as if they've known each other for ever"!

All in all, a very successful day.
