What an enjoyable afternoon for everyone involved in the SSP Dance Finals - all six teams of Year 4 classes were an absolute delight to watch and the atmosphere throughtout the entire showcase was superb.

Airmyn Park kicked off the performances by "Rocking all over the world" and delievered a lovely mix of music with effective costumes that tied into each song selection perfectly. They also gave us the first glimpse of the "floss" for the afternoon....but certainly not the last!

Brough took to the stage next with a very emotive piece representing a wartime theme. The costumes were simple but effective and theuir dance exempified wonderful lines, , super timing and good expression. The judge also commented on the paired work which really captured the feeling of the piece.

Howden 1 changed the mood totally and filled the stage with fabulous energy, great timing and dynamic costumes featuring vibrant handmade masks. What an uplifting dance.

Boothferry then entertained with us with a spy themed rendition featuring some classic music (pink panther for those older amongst us...closely followed by some Bond songs). They gave us some brilliant Street Dance moves with some outstanding individual work demonstrated. The audience particularly loved it when the "floss" came out again!

Howden 2 did not let a slight technical glitch put them off and next brought us national dances from around the world. "Bill" & "Barbara" took us on an educational journey making us all want to pack up and join them! We all loved the effective flying moves and there was super use of props, the flags of the designated countries were a real eye catcher.

The final performance of the afternoon was from Swanland who again featured a wartime theme. There was a moving start with a young lady reading a moving poem to set the tone. They delivered a super paired work and all looked amazing in great costumes. The super slow motion work from the soldiers was highly emotive quickly followed by the dramatuc scenes representing the fallen soldiers. All in all a very poignant and captivating piece.

There was a brief break allowing the judge Tamar Draper some time to make the very tough decisions.

*A side note to the brave members of staff that attempted to learn a few moves of their own*

The results were as follows:-

Most Entertaining - Boothferry

Best Choreography - Brough

Most Technical - Swanland

Best Costumes/Props - Howden 2 & Airmyn Park

Best Student Contribution - Howden 1

Overall Winner - Brough

This was one of the most fun afternoons we've experienced so a huge thanks to everyone involved for all their efforts - The children, staff and especially the IT department at Cottingham High for enabling the event to run smoothly.

Each child behaved and danced impeccably and all the schools should be extremely proud as are we!

We look forward to seeing you again next year!
